New Website Promotes Grassroots Charity -www.111kfc.com

News-and-Society Following the success of grassroots fundraising campaigns for Haiti and the Obama presidential campaign, micro loans and small scale charity are being welcomed as a new, more effective approach to philanthropy. A new website has been launched in the UK with the aim of connecting small time donors and charities in need of low level funding, addressing the current dearth of private donation to non-profit medical and social organizations. The site was created by a recent competitor on Secret Millionaire, Marcelle Speller, who chose the domain name registration LocalGiving.com to illustrate the programs grassroots focus. Since its initial launch in 2008, the site has serviced an ever increasing number of UK communities. Recent press has centred on the fact that the site will be nationwide, encompassing hundreds of charities from across the UK, sometime later this year. Some concerns have been raised over the inclusion of unregistered charities on the Local Giving site, as these are seen as a risk for fraud and embezzlement. Speller defends such allegations by saying that worthwhile charities never reach the point of formal registration simply because they do not receive the necessary support, and that her site is keen to address this gap in the system. Users are encouraged to communicate with and, for lack of a better word, investigate charities and donors alike. A local search function allows businesses and communities to contribute funds to a charity which operates exclusively in their local area, fostering a sense of community among donors and a culture of responsibility for neighbourhood charity organizations. As a precautionary measure, organizations registered on the site are required to provide some documentation, and are vetted by their local community council before web hosting of their information is allowed. In addition to basic charitable donations, the site also provides a platform for micro loan programs that allow their individuals to make money available to individuals and collectives in need at little to no interest and with a secure repayment plan.
