UnCategorized Entire organizations and web outlets are built around the idea of teaching children about business. Do you believe educating children about business today will help the future economy? Can we gain a healthier economy in the future by teaching children about business today? Many noted individuals and organizations believe fostering entrepreneurship in youth can lead to a healthier economic society. This is evident in organizations like The BizWorld Foundation ("BizWorld"), a non-profit .pany founded in 1997 by venture capitalist Tim Draper. BizWorld teaches entrepreneurial and finance skills to children 8 to 13 years old. According to their online literature, "We believe that by teaching business to youth, we create a more financially literate society." BizWorld goes on to state they have created educational outlets that build confidence and hone vital small business skills such as leadership, critical thinking and teamwork that will assist children in productive and financially responsible members of society through business. A great part of the non-profit’s business model appears to rest on the idea that entrepreneurial kids will lead to a healthier economy down the line. SBA’s Office of Advocacy Study: "Business-owning Households More Likely than Others to Have Higher In.e and Wealth" Can educating our children on how to successfully start a business really lead to a more financially sound future for our country? Hard and fast research released by the United States Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy indicates that households propelled by entrepreneurial endeavors are more likely to have higher and more wealth than non business-owning households. Among some of the findings of the 1998-2007 study .pleted in November 2010 were as such: *Business owning households of small firms researched during the study period were more likely than other households to be in the top 50 percent of in.e and wealth charts. *The largest percentage of in.e gain during the period was among entrepreneurs with more than one business (Note: Many entrepreneurs tend to be serial entrepreneurs.) *Households not owning businesses had a real mean household increase of fewer than 40%, while those households owning businesses had a .parable real mean increase of over 60%. This formal study further solidifies that teaching children about business can position them for a higher in.e and wealth-generating bracket. President Obama Believes Business Owners are the Key to United States’ Economic Turnaround President Obama believes entrepreneurs are the key to the country’s economic turnaround. In an Entrepreneur Magazine article, he stated, ""The answers to our problems don’t lie beyond our reach. They exist in our laboratories and our universities, in our fields and our factories, in the imaginations of our entrepreneurs and the pride of the hardest-working people on Earth." White House: Cut Spending, Not "Innovation" Even in these tough economic times, President Obama refuses to cut spending when it .es to innovation. At a recent weekly address from Miami Central High School, he attributed the over 200,000 recent new jobs, and the unemployment rate falling to its lowest level in almost two years, to business. "…the progress we’re seeing says something about the determination and ingenuity of our people and our businesses," he stated. "We’ve got to .e together to put America back on a fiscally sustainable course…" President Obama said. The President went on to call for both sides of the isle to .e together on a budget without sacrificing investments in, among other things, innovation, new ideas, job-creating businesses, and investments in our future. Non-profit .panies are putting their monies behind teaching children about business; the federal government indicates that entrepreneurial households are wealthier households; the President of the United States believes entrepreneurship is the key to our economic future; and, though the country is in a financial crisis, The White House is not holding back on financially supporting programs that foster innovative ideas in our youth.
